BrightMEMTM Corneal Allograft Information Sheet
For Surgery Centers and Hospitals
About BrightMEM
BrightMEM is a novel corneal allograft that promotes the regeneration of the corneal epithelium. It is
made from Descemet's Membrane, which creates a new foundation for the ocular surface capable
of supporting native limbal epithelial stem cells. This represents a new mechanism for treating
impaired corneal healing.
BrightMEM Anterior Keratoplasty (BMAK) Procedure
• The packaging identifies the graft as Brightstar Therapeutics’ BrightMEM corneal allograft for an
ALK procedure.
• Allow the tissue to warm to room temperature (20°C–25°C) in its unopened tissue chamber for 1
hour prior to use.
• The BrightMEM allograft arrives attached to a full scleral rim in a corneal viewing chamber.
• Descemet’s membrane has been peeled from the stroma up to the shaded hinged area, and the Sstamp
is located close to the hinge, as shown here:

How Should We Bill for This Procedure?
• The procedure should be coded as a Lamellar Keratoplasty-Corneal Transplant (65710).
• ASCs should bill the allograft as a pass-through at invoice cost (V2785).
• Hospitals should submit charges using HCPCS code V2785 (Status indicator "F"), which indicates
that the corneal tissue is not paid under OPPS but is reimbursed at a reasonable cost.
What Happens if the Surgical Procedure is Canceled or Rescheduled?
• If you must cancel, immediately reach out to discuss the return procedures:
