Avoiding Cornea Surgery Patient Cancellations
Cornea Surgeons, Surgical Coordinators and Surgery Team:
Please review the following suggested patient check list and contact our team with additional suggestions that we can share with other offices to help minimize cornea returns. We appreciate your help!
- Insurance verified /obtained pre-authorization
- Received medical clearance from PCP
- Consents signed and received
- Latex or other allergies noted
- Patient payment received
- Patient information sent to surgery center
- Proper tissue type ordered and confirmed by MD
- Confirm required patient information; diagnosis, patient ID, DOB all correctly entered for order

Suggested confirmations 1 week prior and day prior to surgery:
- Confirmed surgery date is booked, date, time, and location
- Patient has confirmed transportation to and from procedure
- Reminder not to eat/drink prior after midnight
- Rx’s sent to pharmacy and received / patient aware when to start drops and/or medication
- Patient has received the Path to Sight brochure and Lions World Vision Institute wristband which will serve as a reminder of honoring the Gift of Sight.
